Patna: The flood situation across Bihar has escalated dramatically following heavy monsoon rainfall in local catchment areas and massive water discharge from Nepal. According to the latest update from the Disaster Management Department (DMD), approximately 47.33 lakh people across 561 gram panchayats in 88 blocks of 15 districts are severely impacted. Major rivers—including the Ganga, Kosi, Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Punpun, and Bagmati—are flowing well above their respective danger thresholds at multiple locations.

Ground Report: 15 Affected Districts

South & Central Bihar: Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Munger, Arwal.
North & East Bihar (Seemanchal & Mithilanchal): Bhagalpur, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Katihar, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura.
Worst-Hit Belts: Bhagalpur, Patna, Katihar, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Buxar, and Purnea face critical inundation, with hundreds of villages completely cut off from main road networks.

Swollen Rivers & Embankment Security

Ganga River Surging: In Sultanganj (Bhagalpur), the Ganga is flowing 2.12 meters above the danger mark. Water levels remain alarmingly high at Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat (Patna), Hathidah, Munger, and Kahalgaon.
Water Levels Elsewhere: The Gandak at Dumariaghat, Kosi at Baltara and Kursela, Burhi Gandak at Khagaria, and Punpun at Sripalpur continue to breach safety limits.
Breach Incidents: In Bhagalpur’s Rangra block, floodwaters entered residential zones after breaches occurred at the Dhobania zamindari dam and the Dhobania embankment. Engineering teams from the Water Resources Department are conducting 24/7 surveillance on critical embankments.

Emergency Relief & Rescue Operations

NDRF & SDRF Deployment: A total of 37 disaster response teams (27 SDRF and 10 NDRF) are actively executing evacuation drives in high-risk zones.
Boat Deployment: Over 1,876 government and private boats have been pressed into service for rescue and supply movement.
Community Kitchens & Shelters: Authorities are operating 1,221 community kitchens, serving over 59.73 lakh food packets to date. Around 12,260 displaced residents are housed in 15 relief centers with basic medical care.
Relief Distribution: Over 3.13 lakh polythene sheets, 48,400 dry ration packets, and 10,800 quintals of cattle fodder have been distributed across affected areas.
